Adam and Laura visited Joint Venture Jewelry in June 2011 to look for engagement rings. They were just browsing at the time, trying to evaluate all their options. Both Adam and Laura wanted to pick out the ring together and then later Adam would surprise her with the proposal. They had been to almost every other retail jeweler in the area it seemed, but still hadn’t found exactly what they wanted. After looking through the cases at Joint Venture, they found a vintage ring that Laura ended up falling in love with.
For the proposal itself, Adam tried to throw Laura off as much as possible so she wouldn’t get any ideas about when it was going to happen. Adam set a plan in motion to propose on 11/11/11, while making Laura think it was going to be the weekend before since they had time to go visit relatives over the weekend.
Adam tricked Laura into thinking they were just going on a date that evening. He took her to one of their favorite restaurants in Raleigh, Side Street Cafe, in the Historic Oakwood District in Downtown Raleigh, that they had just discovered months earlier.
As they were leaving the cafe, Adam began to slowly drive up the street and act like they were going back to their apartments. Little did Laura know that two blocks north of the cafe was the Oakwood Bed and Breakfast. Adam surprised her with a wonderful evening as they explored the historic inn. Eventually, he got down on one knee and proposed in front of the fireplace. Adam had gotten there a few hours before to set up the ambiance with roses on the mantle and sparking wine provided by Joint Venture Jewelry to help celebrate the occasion. And of course, she said “YES!”
Since the engagement, Laura and Adam found two gorgeous wedding bands at Joint Venture Jewelry as well! They cannot wait to wear them as symbols of their love and commitment to each other.

March 8th is International Women’s Day celebrated to honor women’s economic, political and social achievements over the years. The first annual National Women’s Day was celebrated in 1909, which was declared by the Socialist Party of America.

It’s important for us, all of us, to recognize this day to see how far we, as a society, have come.
This year’s theme is Women’s Empowerment, focusing on ending world hunger and poverty. The Triangle is celebration this day on March 17th at the RBC Center’s Women’s Empowerment 2012, featuring keynote speaker Tyra Banks.

Lin attended Palo Alto High School (2002-2006) where he captained the basketball team his senior year and led his team to a 32-1 record, upsetting nationally ranked Mater Dei for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division II state title. After receiving no athletic scholarship offers out of high school and being undrafted out of college, the 2010 Harvard University graduate reached a partially guaranteed contract deal later in the year with his hometown Golden State Warriors. After his first year, he was waived by the Warriors and the Houston Rockets in the preseason before joining the New York Knicks early in the 2011-2012 season. The rest, as we know is Linsanity!

I am saddened when I hear gold buyers coaxing customers strapped for cash into their stores to scrap out their gold jewelry. Just like Jeremy Lin, several teams did not see much worth in him, but instead of melting him, he moved along until finding an owner who found value in him. After bouncing between a few teams, I am glad Lin finally found a home with the New York Knicks where he is thriving. Kevin proposed to me on May 5, 2011 at Haywood Hall, the site of our planned wedding nuptials. He led me down the garden path to a lit gazebo where he had previously placed 4 large vases of a dozen roses and each vase was a different grouping of rose variety. On each vase was a numbered card.
The first card on a bench to my left read, “When I went to bed last night, my last thought was of you.” The second card on a bench to my right read, “When I woke up this morning, my first thought was of you.” The third card inside the gazebo read, “You are my everything; my sun, my stars, my sky.” The fourth card on the steps of the gazebo read, “You are my everything…and this is the reason why.”
I knew at that moment he was going to propose to me and I had tears in my eyes. Kevin dropped down to one knee on the step to the gazebo and recited the remainder of the poem in which he had amazingly memorized and asked for my hand in marriage. It was absolutely the most memorable, romantic proposal a girl could ever receive. We then celebrated with a dinner at Hayes Barton Cafe (the restaurant of our first date) and he had on our table a dozen red roses. It was the first red rose I had received from him. Kevin makes me incredibly happy and feel so blessed to have such a wonderful man in my life!
