Famous Jewels
Hollywood, here we come! Take a look at the movies we love that made these gems famous!

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes Gentlemen Prefer Blondes

In this 1953 classic, Marilyn Monroe sings that ever-popular song "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend." The song makes a comeback in Moulin Rouge! when Nicole Kidman's character Satine sings a similar version entitled "Sparkling Diamonds." From fashion and engagement rings to necklaces and earrings, diamonds are truly a girl's best friend!

Breakfast at Tiffany's Breakfast at Tiffany's

The famous opening scene of this classic movie shows Audrey Hepburn decked out in a gorgeous black dress, oversized sunglasses, and a whole lot of pearls . This particular ensemble has been considered one of the most iconic, so much in fact that it has been recreated in many photo shoots. In this movie, Holly Golightly much prefers pearls over diamonds.

To Catch a Thief To Catch a Thief

In this classic Grace Kelly attempts to trap Cary Grant into confessing to being a jewel thief. Diamonds never looked better than on Grace Kelly's neck in this scene as a fireworks display lights up the sky. Grace accuses Grant of staring at her necklace to which he reply's "you know as well as I do that this necklace is imitation." Grace's reply: "Well I am not." The diamonds, although fake, were so crucial to the movie that DeBeers sponsors its reruns today!

Titanic Titanic

The Heart of the Ocean, as it was called in the movie, is thought to be modeled after the Hope Diamond, a roughly 45ct. deep blue diamond now held in the Smithsonian Institute. The Hope Diamond is thought to bring a curse to anyone who wears it. In the end of the movie Titanic, the Heart of the Ocean, or "Le Coeur de la Mer," is released back into the ocean. After the movie was such a huge success, jewelers Asprey and Garrard were inspired to create a real Heart of the Ocean; a 170ct. heart-shaped sapphire with 65 diamonds at 30 carats each. It sold for 2.2 million dollars at a benefit auction.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Walt Disney's first animated classic, the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, centered on seven tiny men who worked in a diamond mine for a living. The beloved "Work Song" featured lyrics such as "It ain't no trick, you get rich quick…in a mine where a million diamonds shine."

Jezebel Jezebel

As a strong-willed Southern Belle about to marry Henry Fonda, Bette Davis earned the Academy Award for Best Actress. In the film she wore this electric pink and white diamond ring that lit up the screen.

Pretty Woman Pretty Woman

Julia Roberts gets one lucky break when she meets Richard Gere in this 1980's classic. The most memorable scene occurs when Roberts, in her stunning red dress, is given a to-die-for ruby and diamond necklace by Gere. The scene in which he jokingly snaps the lid has been recreated many times.

Imitation of Life Imitation of Life

Lana Turner's character in this film is one in which with great success comes greater jewels. In this scene her character is wearing a fabulous diamond and blue stone necklace and earrings.

Queen Elizabeth Queen Elizabeth

At the age of 67, Sarah Bernhardt appeared in the 1912 production of Queen Elizabeth wearing diamond- and pearl-studded brocade gowns, ropes of pearls and beads, and wigs festooned with baroque pearls. Her appearance in the movie did for pearls what her stage performances had done for art nouveau.

The Pink Panther The Pink Panther

The Pink Panther diamond first made its appearance in this series of films in the 1960s as the flawed diamond that, when held up to the light, has what resembles a leaping panther in the center of it. The original film centers around the theft of this diamond; a 2006 remake also centers around the stolen Pink Panther Diamond. In reality, the Pink Panther Diamond is in fact real, and arguably the world's most famous pink diamond. So much in fact that Agatha Christie wrote a book about it, which in turn became the Pink Panther film series.
