Johanna approached us with a clear vision for a custom design project: she wanted to transform her diamond engagement ring into something extraordinary. Although her 2.01-carat modified rectangular brilliant cut diamond was exactly what she wanted in size, color, and clarity, she had long been dissatisfied with its straight lines and rectangular shape. Her previous attempt with another jeweler had left her disappointed, but now she was ready to make things right. She posed a bold challenge: how do we make a square diamond look round?
Donna took on the challenge and got to work! Now this was no easy task. It took nine revisions, a record number for us, two wax molds, and a little over four months to wow Johanna with an award-winning restyled ring! Let's dive into the process.
Johanna and Donna sat down and this was the first concept, design, and sketch.
This wasn't the one. So back to the drawing board we went. Johanna's top priorities included adding a touch of yellow gold, to make the ring two-tone and making the ring look and feel round, like a flower. A flower-like style was so important to Johanna as it symbolized her growth in her love with her husband and her religious belief and faith.
A few renderings and a wax mold later, Donna realized the problem was that the small accent diamonds in the halo or even going with a double halo weren't giving Johanna the wow factor she sought. We scraped that design and brought in larger accent diamonds, which did the trick!
