Congratulations to our newest Joint Venture Jewelry Engaged Couple, Jose and Rayna! These two came in together with a family heirloom semi-mount looking to turn it into the perfect symbol of their love, an engagement ring. We needed to do a bit of work on the setting, adding a true-to-the-period vintage diamond, setting and prong work, sizing and touching up of the hand-engraved filigree-work. Once it was ready, Jose picked up the ring on a Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, he told Rayna he was going to wait a while to propose.
"Well, it lasted all of about an hour from when he went to pick up the ring," according to Rayna. "Which by the way looks beautiful, you did such a great job matching the filigree work!" Rayna went on to gush about the moment she said yes.
"Jose showed up to my house earlier than normal, he gets off at 4:00 pm on Saturdays. He told me it was because there was no more work left in the shop, which I believed him because work has been slow in the afternoons since the start of the pandemic. I did not know he had gone to get the ring, he had not told me it was ready.
He asked me to go walk around the property with him since it was nice out, which isn't an unusual occurrence because my grandma and I walk the property every day. As we were rounding into the backfield, we started talking about getting married and our plans. This field is where I have always imagined having a ceremony. He was asking me where I wanted to put up an arch to get married under. He asked me to point again to where I thought would be the best spot and when I turned around, he was on one knee!
I was totally surprised because he had me believing it would be months before he would propose. It was a very special moment because he proposed on the spot that we will hopefully get married in one day.
Thank you for sharing this special moment with us and making my great grandmother's ring my own engagement ring. An extra tidbit, I found out my great-grandmother was married in 1930 at 18 years old to my great grandfather who was 22 years old; and they were happily married for 45 years. I hope my 90-year-old ring brings me as much luck and happiness as it did for her. Looking forward to working with you again soon to create the wedding band!"
